And the special day will include some special celebrity visits from Phillies great Mike Schmidt, the Phillie Phanatic, the Galapagos Gang, and the Philadelphia Zoo on Wheels. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to the ShopRite Partners In Caring food drive on Citizens Bank Way, where family-friendly events, FREE food samples and giveaways will take place throughout the day.
The event is open to the public and game tickets are not required to access the ShopRite Partners In Caring Food Drive. The festive game-day food drive and block party will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. along Citizens Bank Way. Music will be provided by CBS Radio.
ShopRite and the Phillies host the ShopRite Partners In Caring Food Drive each year to benefit Philabundance. This year, those who bring a non-perishable food donation to the ballpark can also earn a FREE buy one get one free ticket voucher they can use for that day's game against the Marlins or a future Phillies game during the regular 2016 season.
The ShopRite truck will be parked on Citizens Bank Way and those who attend the event will receive a FREE ShopRite re-usable grocery bag while supplies last. Fans can also drop off their donations in Philabundance bins located at any Citizens Bank Park entrance gates.
ShopRite collected enough food during last year's drive to supply 1,500 meals for people in need in the Delaware Valley.
ShopRite, Hatfield, Turkey Hill, Tastykake and Herr's will provide free food samples to fans and food donors. CBS Radio will supply the music and Cavity Busters will also provide giveaways.
Event highlights include:
ShopRite is a proud sponsor of the Phillies and a longtime friend to Philabundance, the largest hunger relief organization in the Delaware Valley. Through its ShopRite Partners In Caring program, ShopRite donates more than $3 million annually to food banks such as Philabundance throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland.
ShopRite is also one of the many Phillies partners taking part in the Phans Feeding Families summer-long initiative, aimed at helping raise money and collect food to feed the 750,000 people in the Delaware Valley that are at risk of hunger each year.
"We are honored to partner with the Phillies again this year on this really important and fun event. This team effort helps get food to those in need in the Philadelphia area," said Christine Magyarits, spokeswoman for ShopRite Partners In Caring. "Through the ShopRite Partners in Caring program, ShopRite has donated more than $2 million to Philabundance since 1999. Community events like this also help raise awareness about hunger and its impact on families in need."
"ShopRite is such an amazing, longstanding partner to Philabundance. We are grateful to have its support as we work together, with the Phillies, to hit hunger out of the park," said Glenn Bergman, executive director of Philabundance. "This food drive will allow us to provide much needed, nutritious foods to people in need, and there are unfortunately many in need. Across the country one in seven people is hungry, while in our area it's almost twice that amount, with an astounding one in four fighting hunger each day. Thanks to ShopRite, the Phillies, the Phans and others, we can help drive hunger from our communities today and end hunger."
