Toronto acquires Brito from Padres

April 2nd, 2019

The Blue Jays traded for Padres outfielder Socrates Brito on Tuesday, sending Minor League outfielder Rodrigo Orozco to San Diego.

To make room on their 40-man roster for Brito, the Blue Jays transferred Dalton Pompey (concussion) to the 60-day injured list.

Brito was only with San Diego for a week and didn't play a game for the Padres, who claimed him off waivers from the D-backs last Wednesday and designated him for assignment Saturday. The 26-year-old played 24 big league games for Arizona last season, hitting .175/.227/.250 with one home run.

Orozco -- who was traded on his 24th birthday -- played six seasons in the Blue Jays' Minor League system. He spent the 2018 season at Class A Advanced Dunedin, where the switch-hitter batted .304/.375/.389 with one home run and 18 stolen bases in 112 games.
