Baseball and softball came with a Halloween twist at the Miami Marlins MLB Youth Academy on Saturday, Oct. 24, as young athletes and their families gathered for the second annual Spooktacular Showdown presented by Ernst & Young.

Hosted by the Miami Marlins Foundation at the Miami Marlins MLB Youth Academy, the celebration brought together competition, Halloween spirit and plenty of ways for the whole family to join in the fun.

Young athletes showed off their costumes and their skills during tournament play, with champions crowned in both baseball and softball. But the final score was only part of the story. Relay races, an egg toss and other activities kept the celebration going, giving players and families more ways to join in the fun beyond the diamond.

Those moments of connection are at the heart of what the Academy hopes to build.

“The impact we're always trying to make goes beyond the field,” said Madison Chiudina, Miami Marlins MLB Youth Academy manager. “We want to bring our community together, develop life skills and build that confidence both on and off the field.”

The celebration followed another special moment for the Academy: its official MLB Youth Academy ribbon-cutting ceremony in September. With support from the Miami Marlins, Major League Baseball and the City of Hialeah, the Academy continues to create opportunities for South Florida’s young athletes to learn, compete and grow.

Spooktacular Showdown brought that purpose to life with a seasonal twist, making time at the ballpark an experience the whole family could share.
