The Pittsburgh Pirates have selected catcher Jacob Stallings from Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 26-year-old Stallings spent a majority of the 2016 season with Indianapolis and batted .214 (55-for-257) with 17 doubles, six home runs and 28 RBI in a minor league career-high 80 games. Stallings also made two starts with the Pirates on June 19 and June 21 and went a combined 1-for-8. His first big league hit was an RBI-double off San Francisco's Johnny Cueto on June 21 at PNC Park.
Stallings will wear uniform No. 58.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Stallings, catcher Chris Stewart has been placed on the 60-day disabled list with left knee discomfort.
