• Using a top-to-bottom attack on offense and relying on a strong outing by Jake Arrieta, the Cubs evened the World Series at a game apiece with a 5-1 victory over the Indians on Wednesday.

Cubs designated hitter Kyle Schwarber delivered a pair of run-scoring singles in the win. The 23-year-old has played 11 postseason games and collected an RBI in seven of them. He is one of 18 players to have at least one RBI in seven of his first 11 postseason games, with a quintet of players going as high as eight of their first 11: the Pirates' Clyde Barnhart, the Yankees' Bernie Williams, the Red Sox's Nomar Garciaparra, the White Sox Joe Crede and the Mets' Daniel Murphy. Among the group at seven, Schwarber is the only one to have played for the Cubs while doing it.
• While Schwarber went 2-for-4 with a walk, Indians DH Carlos Santana was 0-for-4. A look at National League designated hitters (starters) vs. their American League counterparts in World Series play:

• Cubs pitching (Arrieta, Mike Montgomery, Aroldis Chapman) combined for 12 strikeouts and only four hits allowed. There had been seven previous team lines that saw as many as 12 punchouts be accompanied by four-or-fewer hits in a World Series game: the 1906 White Sox in Game 3 (Ed Walsh), '66 Orioles in Game 1 (Dave McNally, Moe Drabowsky); '72 Athletics in Game 3 (Blue Moon Odom, Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers); '99 Yankees in Game 1 (Orlando Hernandez, Jeff Nelson, Mike Stanton, Mariano Rivera); 2001 Yankees in Game 3 (Roger Clemens, Rivera); '10 Giants in Game 5 (Tim Lincecum, Brian Wilson); and '13 Cardinals in Game 2 (Michael Wacha, Carlos Martínez, Trevor Rosenthal).
