Here are three interesting items from the National League Wild Card Game …
• In New York, the Giants received the expected (nine scoreless frames from Madison Bumgarner) and the surprising (a three-run homer in the ninth against Jeurys Familia) and defeated the Mets, 3-0, to advance to the NL Division Series against the Cubs on Friday at 9 p.m. ET on FS1. Bumgarner surrendered four hits and two walks, fanned six and came away with his third career shutout (and second in an NL Wild Card Game).

Bumgarner's career postseason line: 15 games (13 starts), a 1.94 ERA, an 8-3 record, one save and a 0.863 WHIP. Among all pitchers with at least 80 innings pitched (there are 44), Bumgarner ranks fifth in ERA and owns the third-lowest WHIP. In ERA, he trails Mariano Rivera (0.70), Christy Mathewson (0.97), Waite Hoyt (1.83) and Bob Gibson (1.89); in WHIP, he trails Rivera (0.759) and Mathewson (0.836).
• With 10 strikeouts to accompany his seven scoreless frames, Mets starter Noah Syndergaard became the sixth pitcher in postseason history to fan at least 10 while allowing no runs in a winner-take-all contest. At 24 years and 37 days old, he is the youngest to do it -- younger than Sandy Koufax (1965 World Series), Justin Verlander (2012 and '13 American League Division Series), Bumgarner ('14 NL Wild Card Game) and Jake Arrieta ('15 NL Wild Card Game).

• In postseason history, there have been 2,518 home runs, with 265 of them coming in the ninth inning or later. Ninty-one of those 265 broke a tie, and six of those 91 broke a scoreless tie. Of the six, Conor Gillaspie's in Wednesday's NL Wild Card Game was the first to come in a winner-take-all contest.
