Mets owner Cohen takes break from Twitter

January 30th, 2021

Mets owner Steve Cohen announced on Saturday that he is going to "take a break" from using Twitter after his family received threats this week in relation to the ongoing stock-trading clash between independent investors and hedge funds.

“I’ve really enjoyed the back and forth with Mets fans on Twitter which was unfortunately overtaken this week by misinformation unrelated to the Mets that led to our family getting personal threats," Cohen said in a statement. "So I’m going to take a break for now. We have other ways to listen to your suggestions and remain committed to doing that. I love our team, this community, and our fans, who are the best in baseball. Bottom line is that this week’s events in no way affect our resources and drive to put a championship team on the field. #LGM!”

Cohen had been very active on Twitter since taking over as the club's owner in November. He had amassed nearly 200,000 followers as he routinely interacted with fans, from entertaining their suggestions on how to improve the club to casually discussing the Mets' offseason moves.
