DENVER -- With the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline looming, the Rockies' brass are probably trying to decide if they can contend for the postgseason or if they should sell. With a 5-2 homestand, the team is making a case that they can contend.
The Rockies' 7-2 victory over the Braves on Sunday capped off a four-game sweep, and though the team is four games below .500, they are only six games out of the second Wild Card.
"We're not naïve," infielder Daniel Descalso said. "There are guys that have been around through some Trade Deadlines and seen stuff happen. We have a good group in here, I hope that we play well enough to give ourselves a chance to stay together and make a run, but at the end of the day, that's on us to go out and prove to our front office that we're worth a shot at sticking together."
Outfielders Carlos González and Charlie Blackmon along with pitchers Jorge De La Rosa and Boone Logan have been often mentioned in trade rumors, but if the Rockies keep up their hot play, they may force management into keeping the team together.
Colorado's hallmark of success lately has been outstanding pitching. Three of the four wins against Atlanta came with quality starts, the only exception being Tyler Chatwood's five shutout innings in Sunday's win.

Sunday's win gives the Rockies a winning record at home for the first time since April 22, as they have won 14 of their last 20 at Coors Field.
"Yeah, we'd like to have a better home record than that, but we're playing well," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "Four game sweeps are extremely difficult in this league. Next to impossible. That's an accomplishment right there. I like the way we rebounded from a tough series against Tampa Bay, especially the last two games that were ugly. We turned a page like we do and came out and swept a four-game series.
"Tough road trip ahead of us, but we've got to play well."
The Rockies head on a seven-game road trip against the Orioles and Mets. Baltimore leads the AL East at 57-40 and have won 10 of their last 15 games, while New York is a half game out of the second Wild Card at 52-45.
"We're going to face two really good teams, so we've got to play really good baseball and just continue to have success on the road," Gonzalez said. "Just keep the momentum going. When we're here at home, we've got to play good, and that's what we did against the Braves. Obviously we want to continue to play the same way."
