Svihlik tabbed as amateur scouting director

MIAMI -- The Marlins named D.J. Svihlik their Director of Amateur Scouting on Wednesday. Svihlik, who is in his first season with the organization, was hired as Advisor to the Baseball Operations department last November.
Svihlik has worked in professional and collegiate baseball for 17 years. He spent 14 years with the New York Yankees as an area scout and then national crosschecker, evaluating amateur talent for heir farm system. He spent one season as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Vanderbilt University prior to joining the Marlins.
Svihlik was the Big Ten Player of the Year as a sophomore for Illinois in 1998, and a two-time All-American. He played in the minor leagues for the Yankees from 2000-'02. He was hired as a coaching assistant in the Yankees' minor league system in 2002, prior to becoming an area scout in 2003.
