Mississippi State's baseball program is one of the most storied in the country. The school has produced many Major League players over the years, and its rich history had a chapter added to it Tuesday night.

In the eighth inning of the Bulldogs' College World Series matchup against Virginia, No. 7 seed Mississippi State was trailing, 4-2. SEC Player of the Year Tanner Allen changed that with one swing. On a 1-0 pitch from Virginia closer Stephen Schoch, MLB Pipeline's No. 138 Draft prospect smashed a screaming line drive over the wall in right field to put the Bulldogs ahead, 5-4. They went on to win, 6-5.

Allen, who was drafted twice out of high school (by the Cubs in the 36th round in 2017 and the Rockies in the 34th round in 2019), missed most of last season due to injury but entered the day hitting .386/.457/.623 with 10 home runs in 61 games during the 2021 campaign. MLB Pipeline projects him to be selected in the first five rounds of next month's MLB Draft.
