DENVER -- Rockies right-handed starting pitcher Tanner Gordon, who was scheduled to start on Saturday night against the Brewers at Coors Field, was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a right hip impingement, retroactive to Tuesday.
To replace Gordon, 28 and in his third season of Major League action, on the 26-man roster, the Rockies recalled right-hander Zach Agnos from Triple-A Albuquerque. Agnos had struggled in two relief outings, giving up seven runs in each, before being optioned on Monday. But three outings ago, Agnos pitched five scoreless, one-hit innings in a spot start at Arizona on May 21.
Gordon (0-1, 6.37 ERA) has appeared in nine games this season, the past two of them starts. Gordon held the Dodgers to one run on six hits and a walk in five innings on May 25, but in his last start, he threw 75 pitches in three-plus innings and yielded four runs on six hits in Sunday’s 19-6 loss to the Giants.
The Rockies have not announced a starter for Saturday, but Agnos -- mostly a multi-inning reliever -- had been scheduled to start for Albuquerque on Friday night at Sugar Land.
