Thompson, Weeks pace Arizona Rookie Padres

Second baseman makes first rehab start

Second baseman made his rehab debut with the Arizona Rookie Padres Monday night and right-hander Mason Thompson pitched three scoreless innings as the Arizona Rookie Padres defeated the Texas Rangers 4-3 in 11 innings.

Weeks hadn't played since suffering a right hamstring strain with the Padres on May 8. He was 1-for-2 with a steal, a RBI and a run scored Monday.

Left fielder Aldemar Burgos (.160) was 2-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and a RBI as the Arizona Padres improved to 22-28. First baseman Luis Anguizola (.256) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, two walks, two steals and a run scored.

Thompson lowered his earned run average to 1.13 in his fourth start. He allowed two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Right-hander Emmanuel Clase (5.03 ERA) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts in three innings. Right-hander Grant Zawadzki (4.30) allowed a hit with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning. Right-hander Chasen Ford (3.00) allowed a hit with a strikeout in a scoreless inning. Right-hander Kyle Gauthier (5.76) allowed a hit with a strikeout in two scoreless innings.

Right-hander Jim McDade (5-0, 1.74) allowed a hit with a strikeout in a scoreless inning to get the win.

AROUND THE FARM:

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (68-61) - Salt Lake 2, CHIHUAHUAS 0: CF (.305) and DH (.342) were each 2-for-4. Starting RHP Michael Kelly (6.3, 4.89 ERA) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings. RHP (4.37) allowed two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. RHP Derek Eitel (3.90) issued two walks with a strikeout in a hitless-scoreless inning. RHP (4.91) allowed two hits and a walk with a strikeout in a scoreless inning.

DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (29-27, 51-75): The Missions had Tuesday off.

ADVANCED SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (31-26, 63-64): The Storm had Monday off.

SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (21-36, 57-70) - GREAT LAKES 4, TinCaps 3: CF Alan Garcia (.236) was 2-for-3. DH Tyler Selesky (.321) was 1-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored. SS Chris Baker (.375) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Starting RHP Emmanuel Ramirez (4.27 ERA) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings. LHP Elvin Liriano (1-2, 3.19) allowed two runs on five hits with a strikeout in 3 2/3 innings.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (9-16, 28-35) - Salem-Keizer 2, DUST DEVILS 0: SS Hudson Potts (.286) was 1-for-3 with two walks. C Kyle Overstreet (.240) was 1-for-3 with two walks. RF Luis Asuncion (.242) had a double in two at-bats with a walk. Starting LHP Joey Lucchesi (0-2, 1.50 ERA) allowed an unearned run on three hits with seven strikeouts in four innings. RHP Braxton Lorenzini (5.95) allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts in four innings. LHP Trevor Seidenberger (0.00) pitched a perfect inning.

DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (35-32) - Padres 2, Diamondbacks 0: 2B Luis Guzman (.301) was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. CF Angel Santos (.260) was 2-for-4 with a RBI. RHP Dauris Valdez (4-3, 3.51 ERA) allowed three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five scoreless innings. RHP (10.50) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning in the rain-shortened, 6 ½-inning game.
