BOSTON -- The Red Sox and Rangers will have to wait a day to play the rubber match of their three-game series at Fenway Park.

Sunday’s contest was postponed until Monday at 1:10 p.m. ET due to the potential impact of Hurricane Henri in New England.

The forecast called for several bands of moderate to heavy rain throughout the day, with sustained winds of 30-40 mph in the Fenway area and more severe conditions expected to the south and west of Boston.

State and local officials were asking all residents to use caution throughout the day on Sunday and only travel if absolutely necessary, which certainly played a role in the decision to postpone the game.

Both teams will simply push Sunday’s scheduled pitchers back a day.

The Red Sox will send All-Star righty Nathan Eovaldi (10-8, 3.91 ERA) to the mound. The Rangers will counter with lefty Kolby Allard (3-10, 4.88 ERA).

Tickets for Sunday’s game will be good for admission on Monday. The gates at Fenway Park will open 90 minutes before the game.

The Red Sox (70-55) took Friday night’s series opener, 6-0, behind five strong innings from Chris Sale in his second start back from Tommy John surgery.

The Rangers (43-80) bounced back with a 10-1 rout on Saturday in which the Red Sox made five errors and manager Alex Cora called his team’s performance “embarrassing” and “unacceptable.”
