Posey, Crawford, Cueto set for WBC 2017

SAN FRANCISCO -- , and , who rank among the most celebrated Giants, earned another distinction on Wednesday when they were named to participate in next month's World Baseball Classic.
Posey and Crawford will represent the United States, while Cueto will join the Dominican Republic squad.

The World Baseball Classic runs from March 6-22. In the U.S., games will air live exclusively in English on MLB Network and on an authenticated basis via MLBNetwork.com/watch, while ESPN Deportes and WatchESPN will provide the exclusive Spanish-language coverage. This will mark the first World Baseball Classic activity for Posey, a four-time All-Star who was the 2012 National League Most Valuable Player Award winner, as well as a three-time Silver Slugger and 2016 Gold Glove Award recipient. Crawford, a 2015 All-Star and two-time Gold Glove Award winner, also will see his first World Baseball Classic action.

Cueto, last year's NL All-Star Game starter who has finished in the top six of Cy Young Award balloting three times, participated in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. He excelled for the Dominicans, pitching 4 2/3 shutout innings and receiving the decision in a victory over Panama.
Texas' and Miami's A.J. Ellis will join Posey to comprise the catching corps for the U.S. Houston's is among the infielders who will complement Crawford.

St. Louis' , Tampa Bay's Alex Colome and Atlanta's are among the pitchers who will join Cueto on the Dominican Republic's staff.
Distinguished as the Giants' contingent is, it's not as sizable as their eight-player representation in 2013, when the club was coming off winning the 2012 World Series in a four-game sweep over Detroit. San Francisco's participants in the '13 World Baseball Classic were right-hander (Dominican Republic), outfielder (Puerto Rico), right-hander (Mexico), Minor League catcher Tyler LaTorre (Italy), infielders and Marco Scutaro (Venezuela) and pitchers and (United States).
