April 25th, 2018

PITTSBURGH -- The opening game of the Tigers-Pirates series was postponed due to rain on Tuesday, and will be made up with a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday.
The first game will begin at 4:05 p.m. ET, and the second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the final pitch of the opening game.
Rain fell for almost the entire day in Pittsburgh, and the grounds crew never got a chance to remove the infield tarp. Minutes before the 7:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch, the game was officially put in a delay, and it was called over an hour and a half later.
will face off against in Game 1, followed by Matthew Boyd and starting in Game 2.
Zimmermann previously faced the Pirates on Opening Day and gave up four runs on six hits over six innings. However, he also struck out eight batters, which was his highest total in a start since May 2016.
This is the third time a Tigers-Pirates game has been postponed due to weather this season. The clubs' Opening Day matchup was rained out on March 29 at Comerica Park, and their second game of the season was also pushed back a day, leading to a doubleheader on April 1.
