DETROIT – The Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the White Sox with a pair of late-inning comebacks. Matt Vierling’s 10th-inning bloop single brought home Riley Greene for a 5-4 win Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park.

The Tigers were down to their final out against White Sox closer Seranthony Domínguez with Jahmai Jones, 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts against right-handed pitching on the season, at the plate. Jones, who entered as a pinch-hitter against lefty Bryan Hudson two innings earlier, legged out an infield single on a ground ball to short by reaching a sprint speed of 29.7 feet per second, just shy of the 30.0 elite threshold.

Kevin McGonigle’s ensuing single moved Jones to third. Dillon Dingler, whose 18th homer of the year brought the Tigers within a run in the previous inning, was down to his final strike before sending a ground ball through the left side to tie the game. Only a lunging play from first baseman Jacob Gonzalez kept Kerry Carpenter from a walk-off hit.

Back-to-back fly balls from Edgar Quero and Tristan Peters brought leadoff runner Gonzalez around to restore Chicago’s lead in the 10th, but Greene’s single and Spencer Torkelson’s double tied the game in the bottom half and put the winning run on third with nobody out. Colt Keith’s chopper to first went without a play to load the bases for Vierling’s blooper off Jordan Hicks that fell just out of the reach of a diving Braden Montgomery in right.
