Impemba, Allen won't return to booth in 2018

DETROIT -- Tigers television broadcasters Mario Impemba and Rod Allen will not be scheduled for any more games this season, according to a statement from FOX Sports Detroit.

The network, which holds the local rights to Tigers telecasts, made the announcement on Friday, three days after a reported physical altercation between Impemba and Allen following a broadcast Tuesday in Chicago.

The team released a statement following the network announcement: "The Detroit Tigers support our partners at FOX Sports Detroit in their decision regarding Mario Impemba and Rod Allen."

Matt Shepard and former Tigers great Kirk Gibson, who both traveled to Chicago to broadcast Wednesday's series finale against the White Sox, are expected to be in the booth for Friday's series opener against the Cardinals at Comerica Park.

Tigers radio play-by-play broadcaster Dan Dickerson will shift over to the TV side for Saturday's game while Shepard broadcasts Eastern Michigan University football.

The Athletic first reported on Thursday the incident between Impemba and Allen, who had to be separated by a third party and reportedly traveled home to Detroit separately on Wednesday. The two have teamed up on Tigers telecasts since 2003, becoming a familiar pair for Tigers fans while also dabbling in national broadcasts for FOX.
