Tigers announce new Comerica Park bag policy

March 27th, 2019

The Tigers open their home schedule next Thursday, but they’re getting the word out now about a new policy for fans planning to bring bags into Comerica Park. Per the updated guidelines, multi-compartment backpacks will not be allowed into the ballpark this season.

According to the team, the change follows recommendations from the Department of Homeland Security and other public safety institutions. Multi-compartment backpacks are usually the most difficult bags to search at security checkpoints, requiring the most time to go through. The change is aimed to make security screening more efficient and the ballpark experience safer for fans.

The only backpacks that will be allowed into the park are single-compartment drawstring bags that meet the MLB bag-size guidelines of 16” x 16” x 8” or smaller.

The change does not apply to purses -- including fashion backpack purses -- which will still be allowed into the park. Diaper bags and medical bags will also be allowed, as long as they meet the MLB size guidelines.

The Tigers open their home schedule with a 1:10 p.m. ET game on April 4 against the Royals.
