KANSAS CITY -- The injury woes that have plagued the Tigers over their three-city road trip provided one more absence on getaway day. Justin Upton left Detroit's 6-5 victory Wednesday night in the third inning after suffering a mild right quad strain while running the bases.
Neither Upton nor manager Brad Ausmus expect it to be a lengthy injury.
"I don't think it's anything major," Ausmus said. "We'll see how he is on Friday."
Upton slashed a go-ahead two-run double into the gap in left-center field, sliding hard into second base to beat the throw. He felt the injury as he headed into second.
A Nicholas Castellanos grounder and Whit Merrifield error advanced Upton to third base, but he caught the attention of Ausmus and head athletic trainer Kevin Rand.
"I felt it grab a little bit," Upton said. "We'll see how it feels moving around on Friday."
Michael Mahtook pinch-ran and replaced Upton in left field.

The Tigers, having played 11 games in 10 days this trip, already have enough injury troubles with second baseman Ian Kinsler and catcher James McCann on the 10-day disabled list. Another outfielder, Jim Adduci, has been on the 10-day DL for the last couple of weeks with an oblique strain, further depleting their depth.
Upton had two doubles Wednesday, just his second game this season with multiple extra-base hits. He had three multi-hit games on the road trip, raising his average to .246. His nine home runs lead the team, while his 30 runs scored tie him with Kinsler for the club lead.
The Tigers are off Thursday before opening a six-game homestand Friday against the White Sox.
