MINNEAPOLIS -- Tigers first baseman Jose Cabrera exited Friday's 6-3 win in the fifth inning at Target Field with a right clavicle contusion. X-rays were negative, and he is listed as day to day.
The team does not expect the injury to sideline Cabrera for long.
"He's got a contusion," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow. I don't expect it to be anything long-term."
Cabrera was shaken up in the bottom of the fourth, when Robbie Grossman hit a hard grounder that bounced off Cabrera's chest. According to Statcast™, the groundout had an exit velocity of 103.1 mph. It was the hardest out recorded on the evening at that point.
After the ball bounced off Cabrera's chest, he checked the spot for a brief moment, then scooped up the ball and touched the bag to record the out. Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand came out to check on Cabrera, and the veteran stayed in the game for the remainder of the frame. But Cabrera was the second batter due up in the fifth inning, and Ausmus elected to pinch-hit Andrew Romine, who replaced Cabrera in the lineup and at first base.
Cabrera finished the night 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts. He is now 3-for-18 through five games on the current road trip.
