Detroit signs 4 to Minor League contracts with spring invites

The Tigers avoided arbitration with left-hander , agreeing to terms on a one-year contract for 2018, the team announced Saturday.
Detroit also signed right-handers Kevin Comer and Mark Montgomery, infielder Niko Goodrum and outfielder/first baseman to Minor League deals with invitations to Major League Spring Training.

Over parts of four big league seasons -- all with the Tigers -- Hardy has compiled a 3.62 ERA over 164 relief appearances, striking out 134 batters in 159 1/3 innings. The 30-year-old made 35 relief appearances in the Majors in 2017, posting a 5.94 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 33 1/3 innings. He split his time between Detroit and Triple-A Toledo.
The 25-year-old Comer pitched 45 games in relief in the Astros' organization in 2017, recording six saves, a 3.51 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno. Montgomery was in the Cardinals' organization last season. The 27-year-old appeared in relief 46 times and notched five saves, a 2.43 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings for Triple-A Memphis.

Goodrum, 25, made his Major League debut for the Twins in 2017. He played in 11 games, going 1-for-17 with a walk and a run. The 32-year-old Huffman returned to the big leagues for the first time since 2010 last season, playing in 12 games for the Cardinals and going 4-for-14 with a triple and three runs.
