DETROIT -- While the Tigers try to extend their 2016 season with a postseason berth, their preliminary 2017 schedule was released by Major League Baseball on Wednesday. They'll open next season on Monday, April 3 at the White Sox before returning to Comerica Park for the home opener against the Red Sox on Friday, April 7 at 1:10 p.m. ET.
The two series open a schedule that features Interleague Play against the National League West, including visits from the Giants, Dodgers and Diamondbacks, along with a trio of three-city road trips in the first two months.
The April 7 home opener begins a four-game wraparound series with the Red Sox, all at 1:10 p.m. ET through Monday, April 10. The Twins follow into town for a three-game series of afternoon starts before the Tigers hit the road for series against Cleveland, Tampa Bay and Minnesota. A three-city, nine-game West Coast trip on May 5-14 takes the Tigers to the A's, D-backs and Angels before closing out the month on the road at the Astros, White Sox and Royals.

The flip side to the road-heavy May schedule -- just nine home games -- comes in June, when the Tigers play 16 home games and just three series on the road. That includes a two-game series with the D-backs on June 13-14. The only multi-city trip in June is a week-long, seven-game visit to Seattle and San Diego June 19-25.
The Giants come to town on July 4 for a three-game series, beginning with a 1:10 p.m. ET matinee at Comerica Park. The Dodgers visit Detroit for a three-game set on Aug. 18-20. After the Yankees visit for three games on Aug. 22-24, the Tigers hit the road to face the White Sox and Rockies on Aug. 25-30.
Beyond the NL West, the Tigers' Interleague slate includes what has become an annual home-and-home series with the Pirates -- Aug. 7-8 at PNC Park and Aug. 9-10 in Detroit.
The Tigers close the regular season on the road at Kansas City and Minnesota Sept. 26 to Oct. 1.
