Anderson celebrates birthday with 13th homer

CHICAGO -- Happy birthday, Tim Anderson.

In celebration of his 25th birthday, the White Sox shortstop homered for a second straight game and for a second consecutive at-bat with a three-run blast to right field in the first inning of Saturday's 7-6 victory for Oakland at Guaranteed Rate Field. The drive came against A's starter Daniel Mengden and also scored Kevan Smith and Yolmer Sanchez.

It was Anderson's 13th homer of the season.

"Yeah, it was a birthday gift to myself, I guess," Anderson said. "It was a good pitch, though. I was able to handle it and drive it out of the park. Luckily, I got it up high enough."

Anderson also started a double play in the first on a Marcus Semien grounder to erase a leadoff walk issued by Dylan Covey to Dustin Fowler. He put together his second straight multi-hit game and picked up his eighth stolen base in the last 10 attempts, giving him 15 for the season.

"I've just got to keep working. Trust what I'm doing, continue to play," said Anderson, who raised his average to .239 and his RBI total to 31. "I have power to all parts. The more I grow, the better hitter I become. I'm going to keep going."
