Pham's bold prediction: 20 wins for C. Martinez

January 30th, 2018

ST. LOUIS -- A week after Alexa Datt, host of MLB.com's 12:25 Live with Alexa, predicted that Tommy Pham would win the 2018 National League MVP Award, the Cardinals outfielder joined the daily Facebook Live show on Tuesday to graciously accept the endorsement.
Pham also hit on a handful of other topics during his visit, including his reaction to learning that the Cardinals had acquired outfielder in a December trade with the Marlins.
"I was excited because he killed us last year," Pham said. "He killed us in Miami, and he killed us in St. Louis. Marcell can hit good pitching. He's not one of these hitters who feasts off the [No.] 4 or 5 starters. He hits the aces.

"I remember last year, he was squaring up Carlos [Martinez], and when someone is squaring up Carlos, that opens my eyes because that doesn't happen a lot. He's a great hitter, and he's a great defender. He's really going to help us. I'm super excited to have him as a teammate."

Speaking of Martinez, Pham made his own bold prediction on the show when he picked Martinez to be a 20-game winner in 2018.
Pham's visit wrapped up with a series of rapid-fire questions. He disclosed his top treadmill speed (24 mph), his preferred nickname (Pham-tastic) and his favorite song from St. Louis rapper Nelly ("E.I."). He also shared how crab legs became his favorite food and where he considers the go-to spot in his hometown of Las Vegas.

In wrapping up the segment, Datt posed one final question to Pham, asking him whether it would be more exciting to end a game with a walk-off home run or a steal of home.
"Stealing home for the winning run? I've never done that, so that has to be the most exciting thing," said Pham, who does have one walk-off homer in his career. "I can just imagine stealing home to win the game. That right there might be the most exciting thing in baseball."
