WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Former Major Leaguer and current MLB Players Association Executive Director Tony Clark traveled to Williamsport, Pa., for the MLB Little League Classic on Sunday between the Pirates and Cardinals, but he made sure to arrive a day early to visit the Little League World Series for the first time.
The former Little Leaguer from Lemon Grove, Calif., enjoyed his first trip to Williamsport and noted that the MLB game at Bowman Field is exciting for baseball, but the experience the Little Leaguers will have meeting the players before the game is important.
"You're often reminded when you're a kid as you stare at the TV or you happen to get out to a ballpark that the possibility of playing on a big league field is really there," Clark said. "But now you're in a situation where you might be able to reach out and touch one of the guys that you've been watching on TV, and that's a really special opportunity."
