Dodgers option Gonsolin to alternate site

July 18th, 2020

LOS ANGELES -- Arriving late to Summer Camp apparently cost a chance to make the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for pitcher , who was optioned to the alternate training site, the team announced on Saturday.

O Friday, manager Dave Roberts said he considered Gonsolin a starter, so the move probably means Gonsolin will be stretched out on the “Minor League” side to be the first callup if the Dodgers need a starting pitcher.

Roberts said Gonsolin “looked good in his bullpens” and might see his first game action this weekend. Gonsolin was late to Summer Camp without an explanation from the club. Otherwise, he might have been a contender for David Price’s spot in the rotation.

Gonsolin, signed to a $1,000 bonus as a ninth-round pick in 2016, made an impressive Major League debut last year when he went 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 11 games (six starts) with a 1.025 WHIP.
