NEW YORK – Giants manager Tony Vitello was ejected from Saturday’s game against the Mets at Citi Field in the top of the second inning after coming out of the dugout to argue a foul ball challenge that he expected to be overturned.
Giants left fielder Turner Hill led off the frame and appeared to be hit by a pitch thrown by left-hander Zac Thornton. But home-plate umpire Jeremie Rehak said the pitch hit Hill’s bat to make it a foul ball.
After a review requested by the Giants, the call stood, but Vitello came out of the dugout to argue the call. Within seconds of Vitello exiting the dugout, Rehak ejected Vitello from the game.
