August 26th, 2019

Here are the 10 best performances by players on team Top 30 Prospects lists from across the Minor Leagues on Sunday:

Jared Walsh, 1B, OF, LHP, Angels No. 22
Walsh tied a bow on his second three-homer game of the season by hitting a go-ahead two-run shot in the 10th inning, though it wasn’t enough to keep Triple-A Salt Lake from falling to Reno, 10-9, in the bottom half of the frame. Prior to his extra-inning heroics, Walsh had hit a game-tying solo shot in the eighth and a two-run homer in the third. He also doubled in the contest, finishing 4-for-5 with five RBIs and four runs scored. The 26-year-old set a new career high with 14 total bases via the four-extra-base-hit performance, and it marked the seventh time this season that he’s hit both a homer and a double in the same game. Altogether, Walsh has totaled 34 homers and 29 doubles for the Bees this season while batting .328 with 80 RBIs in 93 games. Angels prospect stats »

Cristian Javier, RHP, Astros No. 10
Javier carried a no-hit bid into the fifth inning before completing six scoreless frames of two-hit ball in his Triple-A Round Rock debut. Javier issued two walks and struck out eight while throwing 66 of 90 pitches for strikes in the outing. The Astros promoted Javier, a 22-year-old right-hander, to Triple-A after he had posted a 1.87 ERA with 154 strikeouts in 102 2/3 innings between Class A Advanced Fayetteville and Double-A Corpus Christi. Although he issued 55 walks in that span, Javier also held hitters to a paltry .131 average. In 372 career innings, Javier has pitched to a 2.20 ERA while averaging 12.2 strikeouts-per-nine and holding hitters to a sub-.170 average. Astros prospect stats »

Shea Langeliers, C, Braves No. 5
Langeliers, the No. 9 overall pick in this year’s Draft, recorded his second four-hit performance of the week to power Class A Rome past Columbia, 4-3. Going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, the No. 67 overall prospect tallied four singles including an RBI knock in the seventh inning after he had scored the Braves’ go-ahead run earlier in the game. The 21-year-old backstop has hit safely in five straight to improve his season average from .206 to .246, and he’s now driven in 34 runs in 48 games as a pro. Behind the plate, the defensively-gifted catcher has thrown out 42.9 percent (15 of 35) of attempted basestealers. Braves prospect stats »

Nate Pearson, RHP, Blue Jays No. 2
Pearson (MLB No. 14) posted his second quality start in as many turns for Triple-A Buffalo, tossing six innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against Pawtucket. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out seven, throwing 60 of 95 pitches for strikes. Both runs allowed by the 23-year-old right-hander came on Red Sox No. 2 prospect Bobby Dalbec’s second-inning home run. He rebounded to retire the next 10 batters and 15 of the final 17 he faced to tie a bow on his impressive outing. Pearson’s second Triple-A start followed a stellar International League debut in which he allowed three hits over a career-high seven scoreless frames. Across three levels this season, the former first-round pick (2017) has compiled a 2.05 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 24 walks in 96 2/3 innings (24 starts). Blue Jays prospect stats »

Jesus Luzardo, LHP, Athletics No. 1
Athletics fans are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Luzardo in the Majors and it appears to be only a matter of time until he makes his highly anticipated debut. The lefty struggled a bit with command on Sunday as he threw 47 of his 84 pitches for strikes and issued three walks, but he still threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out four. After a shaky performance in his return to Triple-A Las Vegas, Luzardo has now given up just one run over his past two starts. Athletics prospect stats »

Jackson Tetreault, RHP and Tyler Dyson, RHP, Nationals Nos. 24 and 20
After a pair of rough starts (nine runs allowed over nine innings), Tetreault bounced back with six scoreless innings for Class A Advanced Potomac. The 23-year-old threw 58 of his 90 pitches for strikes, gave up five hits, walked two and struck out seven. The outing was Tetreault’s second start back with Potomac after he’d struggled in a stint with Double-A Harrisburg. Tetreault has pitched to a 1.93 ERA with Potomac this season, but that number increased to 4.73 through 18 starts at the next level.

After losing his spot in Florida’s rotation this past spring, Dyson has been excellent as a starter in his pro debut at Class A Short-Season Auburn. On Sunday, the Nationals’ fifth-round pick scattered three hits (all singles) over a career-high six scoreless innings to earn his first career win. It was the third straight scoreless start by the 21-year-old right-hander, and he’s given up just seven hits over 15 frames in those outings. Altogether, Dyson owns a 1.01 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 26 2/3 innings (seven starts) with the Doubledays. Nationals prospect stats »

Bobby Dalbec, 3B/1B, Red Sox No. 2
Dalbec’s two-run homer in the second inning against Pearson was his second dinger in as many days and highlighted his 2-for-4, three-RBI game for Triple-A Pawtucket. After erupting to hit 35 homers in 2018, Dalbec, a 24-year-old corner infielder has gone deep five times in 21 games at Pawtucket, while also batting .295. Overall, the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder has hit 25 home runs this season in 126 games between Double-A and Triple-A. Red Sox prospect stats »

Ronald Bolanos, RHP, Padres No. 17
Make that back-to-back scoreless starts for Bolanos, who has thrown six scoreless frames in each of his past two outings. The 23-year-old, whom the Padres signed in 2016, retired eight of the first nine batter he faced before he found himself stuck in a bases-loaded jam, however the right-hander avoided trouble and cruised through the rest of his outing. Bolanos struck out eight and although he has an ERA over four (4.16), he’s pitched well as of late, yielding one run or fewer in four of his past five starts. Padres prospect stats »

Peyton Burdick, OF, Marlins No. 29
It’s looking more and more like Miami found a steal in the 2019 Draft in third-round pick Burdick. The 22-year-old had another big game Sunday as he connected on a two-run home run, recorded three walks, stole two bases and scored three runs in Class A Clinton’s rout of Wisconsin. Burdick’s right-handed raw power was among the best in the 2019 college crop, and the Wright State product has shown it so far in the pro ranks by hitting 10 homers in 61 games across two levels. He’s hit nine of those home runs in the Midwest League while also batting .314 with 49 runs scored in 55 games. Marlins prospect stats »
