Here's a look at Tuesday's top Minor League performers from each team's Top 30 Prospects list:
AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST
Blue Jays: Griffin Conine, OF (No. 15) --3-for-4, HR (Class A Lansing) Conine connected on a solo shot in the eighth inning as he helped the Lugnuts rally from a three-run deficit against Great Lakes to win 4-3. The homer was the 21-year-old's third in his last five games and highlighted a three-hit performance. The Blue Jays' second-round pick in the 2018 Draft out of Duke, Conine sat out the first 50 games this season while serving a suspension that was levied against him after he tested positive for Ritalin last November. The 21-year-old has done his best to make up for the lost time, however, as he's now hitting .330/.411/.670 with nine home runs in 29 games since his season debut on May 29. Blue Jays prospects stats »
Orioles: Ryan McKenna, OF (No. 7) --2-for-4, 2 HR;Dean Kremer, RHP (No. 9) --7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K (Double-A Bowie) McKenna hit solo shots in the third and ninth innings en route to his first multi-homer game of the season. The 22-year-old has four home runs in his last four games for the BaySox and nine on the season, which puts him two homers shy of matching the career-high total he established last year during a breakout campaign across two levels. He's batting .276 since the start of June after combining for a .209 average during the first two months of the season. Kremer, meanwhile, did his part on the mound by keeping his opponents off the board for the third time in five starts. The 23-year-old was delayed by an oblique injury to open the season, but has come back strong to post a 3.35 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings (eight starts) in the Eastern League. Orioles prospects stats »
#Orioles No. 7 prospect Ryan McKenna pushed his homer run total to 9⃣ with his first two-homer game of the year for @BowieBaysox.
Rays: Nate Lowe, 1B (No. 9) --3-for-4, 3 HR, 5 RBI, BB (Triple-A Durham) Lowe's massive left-handed power was on full display as he teed off in the fifth (solo), seventh (solo) and eighth innings (three-run) to record his first career three-homer game. The 23-year-old has gone deep five times in his last eight games -- a stretch during which he's also hitting .387 with 11 RBIs -- and 12 times in 68 games this season. With a .290/.419/.519 overall line for the Bulls, Lowe is biding his time until the Rays offer him another crack at the big leagues after a 10-for-38 (.263) showing in 10 games during his first exposure. Rays prospects stats »
Red Sox: Bryan Mata, RHP (No. 7) --6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K (Double-A Portland) Making his Double-A debut, Mata gave up a run in the first inning but settled in and worked five scoreless frames to lead Portland past Trenton, 7-1, in the opener of a doubleheader. He recorded eight groundouts to go along with his five strikeouts and threw 50 of 86 pitches for strikes in the outing. The Red Sox promoted Mata, 20, to the Eastern League after a dominant first half with Class A Advanced Salem, during which he pitched to a 1.75 ERA with a .201 BAA and 52 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings (10 starts). When he's right, the big right-hander generates a combination of whiffs and weak ground-ball contact by effectively mixing three pitches (fastball/curveball/changeup). Red Sox prospects stats »
Yankees: Estevan Florial, OF (No. 1, MLB No. 47) --2-for-6, HR, 5 RBI (Class A Adv Tampa) Florial put the Tarpons on the board in the fifth inning with a three-run homer, his second big fly in as many nights. He followed with a two-run single in his next trip to the plate to finish with a career-high five RBIs in Tampa's 9-2 win over Daytona. The 21-year-old got off to a slow start upon returning from a wrist injury that cost him the first two months of the season, but he's begun to pick up the pace of late, with a .308 average, three home runs and eight RBIs over his last six games. Yankees prospects stats »
AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL
Indians: Aaron Civale, RHP (No. 24) --8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K (Triple-A Columbus) After earning the win in his big league debut on June 22 (6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K), Civale has returned to the International League to dominate in back-to-back starts, allowing one run on eight hits with 13/1 K/BB in 15 innings between the two outings (both wins). Now 7-0 in nine starts with a 2.25 ERA in 56 innings across two levels, the 24-year-old right-hander should get the call back to the big leagues the next time the Indians need a starter. Indians prospects stats »
#Indians No. 24 prospect Aaron Civale has been lights out:#MLB debut on June 22: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K June 27 for @CLBClippers: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K Tonight for @CLBClippers: 8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K
Royals: Meibrys Viloria, C (No. 17) --3-for-6, R, 2B, RBI (Double-A Northwest Arkansas) Viloria is off to a strong start in July and is 4-for-9 through two games and his fourth three-hit performance of the season. The 22-year-old, whom the Royals signed in 2013, is hitting .263 this season, but that number has been climbing as he's swinging a hot bat. Viloria hit .435 in June and boosted his average from .193 to .254 during the month. Royals prospects stats »
Tigers: Tarik Skubal, LHP (No. 17) --7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 HBP, 6 K (Class A Adv Lakeland) Skubal had a 13-inning scoreless streak snapped when he allowed a home run with one out in the sixth inning. It also cost him a win, as Lakeland fell to Palm Beach, 1-0. The 22-year-old lefty has been dominant since the start of June, as he's allowed one earned run or fewer in five straight starts in that span while pitching to a 0.60 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 30 innings. Overall, Skubal, who signed for $350,000 as a ninth-round pick in 2018 out of Seattle University after losing most of his 2016-17 campaigns to Tommy John surgery, owns a 2.58 ERA with 96 strikeouts and 19 walks over 80 1/3 innings (15 starts) in his first full season. It might not be long before the 6-foot-3, 215-pound southpaw receives a bump up to Double-A. Tigers prospects stats »
Twins: Gabriel Maciel, OF (No. 25) --3-for-5, 2 R, HR (Class A Adv Fort Myers) Maciel paced the Miracle offense out of the leadoff spot as he collected a team-high three hits, including his first home run of the season, a ninth-inning solo shot. Acquired from the D-backs a little more than a year ago in the Eduardo Escobar trade, the 20-year-old outfielder has produced a .313/.397/.385 line with nine extra-base hits and 13 steals this season in 57 games between Fort Myers (12 games) and Class A Cedar Rapids (45). Twins prospects stats »
White Sox: Andrew Vaughn, 1B--4-for-5, 2 R, 2 2B, HR, RBI (AZL White Sox) The 2018 Golden Spikes Award winner and No. 3 overall pick from this year's Draft kicked off his second professional game with a booming home run to left field, then doubled in his next two at-bats -- the first of which hit off the wall in left field -- before adding a single in his final trip to the plate. The 21-year-old has collected six hits in his first two games in the Arizona League and could very well rake his way up multiple levels before the season's end. White Sox prospects stats »
🚨 1st professional HR 🚨
Andrew Vaughn, whom the #WhiteSox took with the third overall pick in the 2019 #MLBDraft, goes deep in Arizona League action.
A’s: Jesus Luzardo, LHP (No. 1, MLB No. 15) --4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K (Triple-A Las Vegas) Luzardo put together another strong outing, but the fact that he left after just 45 pitches (29 strikes) is something worth monitoring. The 21-year-old is coming off a stellar 2018 campaign and was fighting for a spot in the A's Opening Day rotation before being shut down with a shoulder strain. Luzardo got back on the mound in mid-June and has pitched in five games this season. A's prospects stats »
Angels: Jo Adell, OF (No. 1, MLB No. 4) --1-for-4, HR (Double-A Mobile) Adell extended his hitting streak to 10 games when he connected on a fifth-inning solo shot to the opposite field -- his fourth homer in 22 games with the BayBears. Despite missing the first two months of the season while recovering from knee and ankle injuries, the 20-year-old has managed to produce a .352/.412/.611 line with six homers and 10 doubles in 28 games across two levels so far in 2019, picking up right where he left off after hitting .290/.355/.543 with 20 bombs, 32 doubles and 15 steals in 99 games spanning three levels a year ago. Angels prospects stats »
Jo Adell is on 🔥.
The #Angels' No. 1 prospect hit his sixth homer of the season and is now batting .378 and has hits in 18 of the 22 games he's played for @Mobile_BayBears.
Astros: Seth Beer, OF/1B (No. 8) --3-for-5, 3 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI;J.J. Matijevic, 1B/OF (No. 19) --3-for-5, 3 R, 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI (Double-A Corpus Christi) Beer and Matijevic combined for three home runs, five extra-base hits, six runs and eight RBIs, though it ultimately wasn't enough as the Hooks fell to Frisco, 13-11. Beer's home run, a two-run shot in the fifth inning, was the 22-year-old slugger's eighth as a member of Corpus Christi and 17th this season in 75 games between two levels. Matijevic, meanwhile, has now authored a pair of two-homer games in his last four contests, giving him eight home runs in 30 games this season, including six in 25 games with the Hooks. Astros prospects stats »
Mariners: Jarred Kelenic, OF (No. 1, MLB No. 24) --3-for-3, 2 R, 2B, HR (Class A Adv Modesto) The three-hit game had to have felt good for Kelenic. The 2018 first-round pick has been in a bit of a skid as the multihit performance was his first since June 4 and the homer his first since June 2. Mariners prospects stats »
Jarred Kelenic showing exactly why he's the #Mariners' No. 1 prospect. The 19-year-old is 3-for-3 with a homer tonight for @ModestoNuts ... and there's still three innings left to play.
Rangers: Leody Taveras, OF (No. 6) --2-for-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, 2 SB (Double-A Frisco) Taveras stuffed the stat sheet out of the leadoff spot in Frisco's win over Corpus Christi, as he tallied two hits, two runs, two steals and three RBIs while reaching base three times in the contest. The 20-year-old outfielder is batting .278 (.702 OPS) with five runs and RBIs apiece in nine games since his promotion from Class A Advanced Down East, where he slashed .294/.368/.376 with 13 extra-base hits and 21 steals over 66 games. Rangers prospects stats »
NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST
Braves: Jasseel De La Cruz, RHP (No. 21) --6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K (Double-A Mississippi) Though he took his first loss in eight outings (seven starts) for the M-Braves, De La Cruz once again pitched well, as he allowed one earned run or fewer for a third time in four starts. The performance furthers what has already been a breakout campaign by the 22-year-old right-hander, who's compiled a 2.72 ERA, .204 BAA and 85/33 K/BB in 89 1/3 innings while ascending from Class A Rome to Mississippi. Braves prospects stats »
Marlins: Victor Mesa Jr., OF (No. 29) --2-for-5, R, RBI (GCL Marlins) Mesa now has three multihit performances in six games to begin his career in the Gulf Coast League, where he's batting .348 across his first 23 at-bats. Mesa and his older brother Victor Victor Mesa defected from Cuba in May 2018 and signed with the Marlins five months later, with Victor Victor receiving a $5.25 million bonus and Victor Jr. landing $1 million. Junior led Cuba's 18-and-under league in hitting (.440), on-base percentage (.560) and slugging (.667) in his final season before defecting, and there are some evaluators who believe the 17-year-old has a higher offensive ceiling than his highly touted older brother. Marlins prospects stats »
Mets: Francisco Alvarez, C (No. 12) --2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI (GCL Mets) Alvarez, 17, delivered his second pro homer on Tuesday and now has multiple hits in four of six games in the Gulf Cost League to open his career. Signed exactly a year ago out of Venezuela for $2.7 million -- the third-highest bonus in his class -- Alvarez stands out for his impact potential from the right side of the plate, where he demonstrates an advanced approach for his age, with natural feel to hit and raw power that he should tap into as he gains experience and adds strength to his frame. Mets prospects stats »
🥳 Francisco Alvarez signed with the #Mets one year ago today. He celebrates the one-year anniversary by bashing his 2nd @MiLB homer in his 6th game.
Phillies: Alec Bohm, 3B (No. 1, MLB No. 38) --Game 1: 2-for-3, R, 2B; Game 2: 0-for-3, R, BB (Double-A Reading) Bohm's two-hit effort in the opener of Reading's doubleheader against New Hampshire was his fourth during his six-game hitting streak, though said streak came to an end for him with an 0-for-3 showing in the nightcap. The No. 3 overall pick from the 2018 Draft is batting .275 with three homers in 12 games since moving up to the Double-A level, which is already his third stop thus far in his first full season. He made quick work of the Class A South Atlantic League and the Class A Advanced Florida State League en route to Double-A, hitting a combined .342/.411/.536 with 81 hits, 29 extra-base hits and 38 RBIs in 62 games between the two Phillies affiliates. Phillies prospects stats »
Nationals: Carter Kieboom, SS/2B (No. 1, MLB No. 21) --3-for-5, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI (Triple-A Fresno) After an 0-for-5, four-strikeout showing to open July, Kieboom bounced back on Tuesday to club his 14th home run as part of a three-hit performance that helped power the Grizzlies over El Paso, 11-9. Though he struggled in his first taste of the big leagues earlier this season, hitting just .128 with two homers and 16 strikeouts in 11 games, the 21-year-old former first-round pick (2016) has been an offensive force in the Pacific Coast League, batting .321 with a 1.026 OPS and 60 RBIs in 65 games. Meanwhile, it's worth noting that Kieboom played third base for just the third time in his career on Tuesday. Nationals prospects stats »
Brewers: Mauricio Dubon, SS/2B (No. 5) --2-for-3, R, 2B, BB, SB (Triple-A San Antonio) After having most of his 2018 campaign wiped out by ACL surgery, Dubon, 24, has returned this season to produce an impressive .309/.347/.475 line with a career-best 12 home runs in the Pacific Coast League. His two-hit performance on Tuesday gives him an even 100 hits in 79 games on the season, a mark that's good for third among all PCL hitters. As a member of Milwaukee's 40-man roster, his big league debut isn't far off. Brewers prospects stats »
Cubs: Brennen Davis, OF (No. 7) --1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI (Class A South Bend) Viewed by scouts as a toolsy but raw high school player when the Cubs selected him in the second round of the 2018 Draft, Davis has proved more advanced than initially thought with a strong start to his first full season with Class A South Bend. The 19-year-old outfielder -- who's listed at a very projectable 6-foot-4, 175 pounds -- has gone deep four times in the Midwest League after his two-run homer on Tuesday, while his overall batting line sits at .298/.398/.491 through 33 games. He's shown good plate discipline, too, accruing 16 walks compared to 23 strikeouts. Cubs prospects stats »
Cardinals: Randy Arozarena, OF (No. 14) --3-for-3, 2B, BB (Triple-A Memphis) The 24-year-old outfielder now has four games with at least three hits during his six-game hitting streak for the Redbirds, for whom he's raked at a .395/.453/.592 clip in 19 games after a strong showing in Double-A (.309/.422/.515) to begin his season. To go along with the strong overall numbers, Arozarena seemingly has made strides with his plate discipline and approach in 2019, tallying 36 strikeouts against 19 walks in 47 games. Depending on what the Cardinals do this season ahead of the July 31 Trade Deadline, Arozarena may finally get his first chance to show what he can do at the highest level. Cardinals prospects stats »
Pirates: Travis Swaggerty, OF (No. 3, MLB No. 64) --3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI (Class A Adv Bradenton) Swaggerty, whom the Pirates selected with No. 10 overall pick in the 2018 Draft out of South Alabama, has scuffled so far in his first full season, but he's started to pick up the pace offensively lately, as Tuesday's multihit performance was his fourth in the last seven games. The 21-year-old is batting .367 with four doubles in that span, during which he's improved his season average from .213 to .230. Pirates prospects stats »
Reds: Taylor Trammell, OF (No. 1, MLB No. 27) --2-for-5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, SB (Double-A Chattanooga) Trammell's two-run home run in the third inning off of Marlins top prospect Sixto Sanchez was his first big fly since May 26, before he landed on the injured list for two weeks with a hamstring injury. The 21-year-old outfielder has had his ups and downs in his first Double-A campaign, hitting .247/.368/.349 with 12 extra-base hits (five homers) and 15 steals in 71 games for the Lookouts, though he has plenty of season left to pick up the pace. He'll represent the Reds in the Sirius XM Futures Game on Sunday for a second straight year. Reds prospects stats »
#Reds No. 1 prospect Taylor Trammell hits his 5th 💣 of the season, a two-run shot for the @ChattLookouts.
D-backs: Alek Thomas, OF (No. 7) --5-for-6, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI (Class A Kane County) Thomas set a career high with five hits and now has hits in 11 of his past 12 games. The 2018 second-round pick will represent the D-backs at the Sirius XM Futures Game and get a chance to show his impressive skill set on a national stage. Thomas, 19, has an advanced bat and knows how to use the whole field. Through 69 games of his first full season, Thomas is hitting .302 with seven homers. D-backs prospects stats »
Dodgers: Josiah Gray, RHP (No. 17) --6.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K (Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga) Gray lowered his ERA to 2.53 and has now allowed one earned run or fewer in four of his past five starts. The 21-year-old, who was part of the package the Dodgers received from the Reds in exchange for Yasiel Puig, has impressed in his first season with the new organization. Gray has a low-to-mid 90s fastball, a low 80s slider and is developing a changeup. So far he's used that arsenal to strike out 93 over 74 2/3 innings. Dodgers prospects stats »
Giants: Marco Luciano, SS (No. 3) --3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI (AZL Giants);Franklin Labour, OF (No. 23) --2-for-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI (Class A Short Season Salem-Keizer) Luciano is one of the most exciting prospects in the Giants' system and it's easy to see why. The 17-year-old, whom the Giants signed for $2.6 million last year, has done nothing but hit in his professional debut. Albeit in a small sample size, Luciano has hit for both average and power. He has hits in eight of the 12 games he's played, is batting .404 and has homered six times. Speaking of homers, Labour has been showing off his power as well. The 21-year-old Dominican prospect has put together back-to-back two-homer games, bringing his total to nine through 18 games. The nine homers are also good enough to lead the Northwest League. Giants prospects stats »
Padres: MacKenzie Gore, LHP (No. 1, MLB No. 3) --7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 9 K (Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore) Gore retired six of the first seven batters he faced en route to another gem for the Storm. The 20-year-old, a 2017 first-round pick, has been lights out on the mound all year. Gore has pitched to a 1.02 ERA and held opponents to one run or fewer in 14 of his past 15 starts. The left has actually posted an ERA under one in each of the past two months and it's hard to fathom it'll be much longer before he makes his Double-A debut. Padres prospects stats »
Gore's final line: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 9 K ERA down to 1.02
Rockies:Sam Hilliard, RF (No. 9) -- 1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI (Triple-A Albuquerque) Hilliard homered for the second straight game after blasting a grand slam on Monday, bringing his season total to 22, a new career-high. His previous season high was 21, in 133 games in 2017. Hilliard has been struggling a bit as of late, with only one multihit game since June 18 after notching 21 of those in his first 69 games. But his display of power is certainly something the Rockies like to see, and his 22 homers are tied for fourth in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Rockies prospect stats»
