PHOENIX -- While shortstop Corey Seager is still out indefinitely with a mild oblique strain, the Dodgers welcomed back Trayce Thompson to the lineup in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Angels, with Alvin Toles coming off the bench and Andre Ethier scheduled back on Sunday.
Thompson played his first game since two fractured vertebrae forced him to miss the second half of last season, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, along with making a nice catch going back on a line drive.
"I'm just happy to be a baseball player again," Thompson said. "Today I was jumpy, just anxious, and the results weren't there. But I felt okay and I was just happy to get the first day over with."
Toles entered as a reserve, going 1-for-2 with a single.
Manager Dave Roberts said Ethier (hip tightness) would see action before the end of the weekend. He is on the travel roster for Sunday's game against Kansas City.
Roberts reiterated that there's no timetable for Seager's return, although the club insists the injury is minor and there is enough time for him to be ready by Opening Day.
Non-roster pitcher Josh Sborz said he will resume playing catch on Monday. He's been shut down the last three days with arm tenderness, which he said was the result of throwing too hard, too soon.
"[Pitching coach Rick] Honeycutt yelled at me," Sborz said.
