Turner eyeing return to lineup this week

WASHINGTON -- went through a full pregame workout prior to Sunday afternoon's game against the Phillies. He tested his strained right hamstring with sprints in the outfield alongside a team trainer, took batting practice with the rest of the team and fielded grounders at shortstop.
He knows it's not his decision, but Turner feels like he will be ready to return when he is eligible to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday.
"I feel like I could be. Whether or not that happens I don't know," Turner said. "They want me to take it slow, as should I. I want to nip it in the bud right now and not have to deal with it ever again. So we'll see."
Even though the Nationals have two shortstops on the DL with a hamstring injury, they have been cautious with Turner since he injured himself last weekend in Philadelphia. Turner said he is no longer feeling any lingering effects from the injury and had no trouble moving from side-to-side or any of the movements he did Sunday. The last hurdle, he believes, will be testing the hamstring running full speed to simulate a stolen base or beating out a ground ball.
Turner said they had not discussed him playing in a Minor League rehabilitation game, and although he would if the Nationals wanted, he did not feel like he needed one before he returned.
"I want to get back here as fast as possible, and if I'm ready to play, I'd like to play here," Turner said. "But they have the protocol. This is my first time going through this, so whatever they ask of me, I'll probably end up doing. Hopefully I get back here as fast as I can."
Worth noting
• The Nationals have listed their starter for Wednesday's game against the Braves as "to be announced", where they will enter a fifth starter into the rotation. That spot will almost certainly belong to right-hander Joe Ross, who started Thursday at Triple-A Syracuse.
