Red Sox close to signing top Draft pick Casas

June 10th, 2018

The Red Sox and first-round Draft pick Triston Casas are expected to agree on a contract for the full slot value of the 26th overall pick -- $2,552,800 -- pending a physical, a source tells MLB.com. The team has not commented.
Casas, 18, is a 6-foot-4, 238-pound power-hitting corner infielder out of American Heritage (Fla.) High School. A three-time gold medalist with Team USA, he had been committed to the University of Miami. He hit .385/.545/.884 with seven home runs in 78 at-bats last season for American Heritage.
Casas made a pre-Draft visit to Boston and Fenway Park, and came away excited about the prospect of joining the Red Sox organization.
"I'm really excited and I can't be more happy with the way [the Draft] turned out," said Casas after he was picked. "I feel like the park suits my swing well, and hopefully I get up to the big league club soon and make an impact."
