CLEVELAND -- In the eighth inning of Friday's 5-0 win over the Indians, Twins right fielder Max Kepler fouled a pitch off his right foot, causing the team's trainer to come to the batter's box to check on him. Although Kepler stayed in for the rest of the game, he was experiencing discomfort in the foot before Saturday's game.
As a result of the injury, Twins manager Paul Molitor opted to scratch Kepler from the lineup on Saturday.
"You know, I had him in there originally today," Molitor said. "He went out early to test that foot out where he fouled the ball off last night. He is having a fairly difficult time being able to jog, much less run."
Molitor said that he initially thought Kepler had hurt his toe, but he later found out that the ball hit off the instep of Kepler's foot. The skipper wanted the Twins' training staff to take a look at Kepler's injury to make sure that there is no structural damage.
"He just said he didn't think he could go today," Molitor said. "So I told our head trainer [Dave Pruemer] that we should probably get a look at it just to make sure [Kepler is OK]."

After Kepler underwent X-rays, the results came back negative. Kepler was diagnosed with a contusion in his right foot, but was made available to come off the bench if needed.
With Kepler out of the lineup -- he was initially slated to hit fourth and play right field -- Robbie Grossman moved from left to right field. First baseman Kennys Vargas moved into the fourth hole, and Byron Buxton manned center field and hit ninth.
In 67 games this season, Kepler is hitting .253 with eight homers, 15 doubles and 29 RBIs.
Sano, Rosario out with illnesses
For the second game in a row, Miguel Sano will not be in the lineup. According to Molitor, the third baseman has been dealing with an illness since Thursday night.
"We're not going to push that one too hard," Molitor said. "We'd love to have him in there today, but we'll try to get him as healthy as he can. Hopefully we will see him back in there tomorrow, if not sometime late in the game today."
In addition, Eddie Rosario was scratched from Saturday's lineup, as he too has been under the weather lately. Even though Rosario played on Friday, Molitor said that the outfielder did not feel 100 percent.
"He looks like he's feeling what he's dealing with," Molitor said.
