FORT MYERS, Fla -- Twins outfielder Austin Martin was removed from Monday’s game against the Pirates due to a concussion and will be held out of all baseball activities for at least two days.
Martin suffered the injury in the third inning of Minnesota’s 5-1 win.
“He won’t do anything through the next two days and then we’ll reevaluate him,” said manager Derek Shelton.
Martin, playing right field, dove for a ball hit by Henry Davis in the top of the third inning and landed awkwardly trying to make the play. He singled in the bottom of the inning but did not return to the game in the top of the fourth, replaced by James Outman.
“When he dove, I think he kind of jarred himself a little bit,” Shelton said. “I think once he got on the bases, he realized he was a little bit dizzy. And then as he walked past [bench coach Mark Hallberg] and I, we kind of saw a little bit of hesitation, and then [head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta] got to him.”
It’s unclear how long Martin will be out. He has been a favorite to make the team as part of the left-field mix who can also play center and second base. Martin is coming off a strong end to the 2025 campaign, when he played some of his best baseball upon being recalled after the Twins’ Trade Deadline selloff.
