MINNEAPOLIS -- With their new front office officially taking over on Monday, the Twins did some roster maintenance, outrighting reliever Alex Wimmers to Triple-A Rochester and reinstating closer Glen Perkins, right-hander Phil Hughes and outfielder Danny Santana from the 60-day disabled list.
It leaves the Twins' 40-man roster at 36 players after they also outrighted Tommy Milone, Pat Dean, Logan Schafer, Andrew Albers and James Beresford in mid-October. It's the first time Wimmers has been outrighted, so he'll remain in the organization.
Wimmers, 28, was a feel-good story for the Twins in 2016, as the former '10 first-round Draft pick finally reached the Majors after several setbacks in the Minor Leagues, including control issues and Tommy John surgery.
The right-hander posted a 4.15 ERA with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks in 17 1/3 innings with the Twins. He also posted a 3.62 ERA with 50 strikeouts, 24 walks and 11 saves in 49 2/3 innings with Rochester.
Chief baseball officer Derek Falvey and general manager Thad Levine will continue to go over every player on the current roster with assistant general manager Rob Antony while at the General Managers Meetings in Arizona.

Falvey and Levine both said Monday that analyzing their roster will be a top priority this week and that they also plan to talk to other clubs while at the GM Meetings to get a feel for how other teams value their players.

"We're going to go through player personnel decisions and evaluations over the course of the next 72 hours aggressively," Falvey said. "We'll work from there."
The Twins also have until Nov. 20 to make decisions on which players they want to protect from the Rule 5 Draft by adding them to the 40-man roster. Notable Twins prospects eligible for the Rule 5 Draft if not protected include right-hander Fernando Romero, shortstop Engelb Vielma, outfielders Daniel Palka and Zach Granite and catchers Mitch Garver and Stuart Turner.
