Polanco missed the past seven games following the death of his grandfather. The 23-year-old infielder is batting .251 with two home runs and 20 RBIs in 46 games. He was not in the lineup for the series opener with Seattle.

"It's good to have him back. I think baseball will hopefully be good medicine for him," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "Not having a lot of baseball over the past seven days, we are going to acclimate him slowly, at least for today."

Heston, 29, was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Wednesday and appeared in one game for Minnesota, pitching a scoreless inning.

Following Monday's 14-3 loss to the Mariners, the Twins optioned Alex Wimmers to Triple-A, with a corresponding move expected Tuesday.

Worth noting

Glen Perkins (No. 22 overall pick, 2004 Draft, University of Minnesota) is scheduled to have another bullpen session on Tuesday after his previous session got rained out. Depending on his next bullpen session, Molitor said that Perkins could join the Fort Myers Miracle within the next 10 days.
