ST. LOUIS -- Right-hander , activated from the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday and placed in the bullpen after closer Greg Holland went on paternity leave, had a rough go in his first bullpen experience in five years.
Chatwood pitched the seventh inning of a 10-5 loss to the Cardinals, giving up a run on one hit, two walks and two wild pitches, with one strikeout. He made seven relief appearances to start the 2012 season.
Holland, who has converted 31 of 32 save opportunities, went to Denver to be with his wife, Lacey, and is expected to return for part of the weekend series against the Nationals.
In addition, the Rockies announced that they are skipping rookie righty 's next turn, which would have been on Saturday.
After making three relief appearances and one in Triple-A as the Rockies try to keep his innings down, Senzatela has found consistency elusive in two starts.
The Rockies have three days off within the 11 days starting Monday. That gives them plenty of room to juggle the rotation, or re-insert Chatwood or Senzatela.
Worth noting
• Prior to Wednesday's series finale, manager Bud Black's plan was to avoid using first baseman-outfielder , who is dealing with a calf injury. The hope is that sitting Wednesday prior to Thursday's off-day will allow Desmond to be available this weekend against the Nationals, for whom he played from 2009 to 2015. It'll be Desmond's first time in Nationals Park as a visitor.
