MINNEAPOLIS -- Reports on Tyler Skaggs' latest rehab outing were positive as the young lefty makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. He struck out five over three innings for Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, allowing two unearned runs. He threw 41 pitches.
"He felt good, especially as the outing went along," manager Mike Scioscia said.
According to the Angels' skipper, the 24-year-old will go four innings in his next start, then make two five-inning appearances before his status is re-evaluated.
"There's certainly a schedule in place to accomplish a couple different things. Probably most important is that Tyler can use his pitches and not have to worry about the stamina aspect until he's got his pitches nailed down.
"There's also a conservation issue, to make sure that when he gets here he has enough to go out there and finish strong for as long as our season will be."
Skaggs last pitched in the Majors on July 31, 2014.
