Here are three interesting items from around the big leagues on Thursday ...
• Ubaldo Jiménez and two relievers combined on a three-hitter as Baltimore blanked Toronto, 4-0. In five September starts, Jimenez owns a 2.31 ERA and a 0.829 WHIP. He entered September with a 6.46 ERA and a 1.798 WHIP. Jimenez has traditionally been a strong September/October pitcher, with career stats in that chunk representing his lowest ERA and WHIP for any monthly split. Over the past four seasons combined, among the 77 pitchers with at least 15 starts in September/October, Jimenez ranks fifth in ERA (2.25), is tied for third in winning percentage (12-2, for an .857) and is 12th in WHIP (1.048).
• Royals right fielder Paulo Orlando went 4-for-4 in his team's 7-6 loss to the Twins and is now hitting .307. Orlando is one of only 54 players in the modern era (since 1901) to have his sophomore campaign come in an age-30 or older season and to have at least 400 plate appearances in that second year. Among these 54, his current .307 ranks as the fourth-highest average. Those with higher season-ending marks: Socks Seybold (.334 for the Athletics in 1901), Len Koenecke (.320 for the Dodgers in '34) and Kiddo Davis (.309 for the Phillies in '32).

• David Ortiz played his final game at Yankee Stadium -- it was his 117th contest as a visitor against the Yankees. Since 1921 (the year of the Yanks' first pennant) there are 82 players who had at least 100 career games vs. the franchise on the road (whether at the Polo Grounds, either of the two Yankee Stadiums or Shea Stadium). Among these 82, Ortiz's 31 home runs are tied with Mickey Vernon for second most, behind Goose Goslin; his 67 RBIs are tied with Joe Judge for 22nd; and his .905 OPS is fifth, behind Ted Williams, Manny Ramirez, Charlie Gehringer and Red Kress.
