BALTIMORE -- Alex Presley has spent 10 days on the 10-day disabled list, but the outfielder is not ready to return to the Tigers just yet. He is, however, starting to partake in baseball-related activities.
"He's been swinging," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "He didn't take [batting practice] on the field [on Friday]. He has started swinging, though."
Ausmus said he expected Presley to take batting practice on the field on Saturday in Baltimore.
The Tigers do not need to rush Presley, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list on July 29 (retroactive to July 27) for a right side strain, as both Andrew Romine and Jim Adduci have been taking his place until he is ready to rejoin his team. Adduci hit his second career home run on Friday night against the Orioles.
Along with Presley, left-handed starter Daniel Norris is also progressing, but he is not close to returning to the Tigers' rotation. The left-hander has yet to do much baseball-related activity, but prior to Saturday's game, Norris was seen taking his glove to play catch on the field.
"He's progressing," Ausmus said. "He's feeling better. He hasn't gone off the mound, though."
Norris was placed on the 10-day disabled list on July 7 with a left groin strain and received a cortisone shot on July 26. When asked on Wednesday if Norris could take the place of an injured Michael Fulmer in the starting rotation Saturday, Ausmus said Norris is "not even close [to being ready]."
