First grand slam in AUSL team's history was done the hard way

Another day, another piece of history for the Utah Talons. This time, it came on a highlight-reel play that was the first of its kind for the AUSL-leading Talons.

With Utah already ahead of the Oklahoma City Spark 2-0, outfielder Jadelyn Allchin roped a fly ball to the gap in right-center field. Right fielder Amari Harper appeared to have a beat on the ball, potentially ending the threat with two outs and the bases loaded.

But the ball bounced off of Harper’s glove as she angled for a difficult diving catch. It scooted away toward center field, allowing the Talons to clear the bases. Allchin wasn’t satisfied with a triple and pushed for the inside-the-park grand slam.

Allchin beat the throw with a headfirst slide and emphatically smacked the dirt with both hands in celebration. The grand slam was the first in Talons history (sixth in AUSL history) and also the first homer of any kind for Allchin this year. What a way to do it.

Adding another single later on, Allchin’s 2-for-4 day helped her remain the Utah leader in batting average (.353) in 2026. The Talons -- winners of the 2025 championship -- went on to beat the Spark, 6-3, on Tuesday to win their fifth game in a row and improve to 8-3.
