LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully missed Tuesday night's game with a sore throat.
Charley Steiner handled play-by-play on the SportsNet LA television broadcast alongside Orel Hershiser, while Rick Monday and Kevin Kennedy had the radio call on AM 570.
During Monday night's broadcast, Scully said he had a sore throat but was determined to work the game because of the anticipated pitching matchup of Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals. But was Strasburg scratched with a sore back.
"I really knew I had a sore throat, but I wanted to see Strasburg and Kershaw so badly that I decided I'm going to go and somehow croak my way through the game," Scully told his audience. "It will be so exciting. I'm going to see two of the great pitchers going head to head. And about 45 minutes before the start of the game, Strasburg let me down."
The 88-year-old Scully is in his 67th and final season as voice of the club.
