Start your Sundays with baseball on Peacock and NBC.
The weekly MLB Sunday Leadoff game is being streamed on Peacock. This weekend's matchup features Paul Skenes and the Pirates taking on shortstop Otto Lopez and the visiting Marlins.
Here is what you need to know about this showdown.
Marlins at Pirates, LIVE on Peacock
These teams have split the first two games of this three-game series. The Marlins (35-36) won Friday's opener, 8-3, before the Pirates (36-35) took Saturday's game, 3-2. That snapped the Marlins' six-game winning streak. Miami's offense is paced by Lopez, who leads the Majors with a .345 average. Catcher Liam Hicks has continued his breakout year this weekend with four hits and three RBIs through the first two games of the series. Miami will give the ball to right-hander Max Meyer, who owns a 2.85 ERA across 79 innings this season.
Meyer will match up against Skenes, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner. The Bucs' third-year phenom has not been truly dominant of late -- he's allowed 13 earned runs over his past 26 innings -- but a 2.84 ERA and a 24.4% strikeout-minus-walk rate aren't too shabby. The Bucs will be without star slugger Oneil Cruz for a significant period after he was placed on the injured list this week due to multiple finger fractures. Pittsburgh will need second baseman Brandon Lowe (17 home runs) and first baseman Spencer Horwitz (.846 OPS) to pick up the slack in Cruz's absence.
Who are the announcers for this game?
Matt Vasgersian will be the play-by-play announcer for most MLB Sunday Leadoff games, and he will often work alongside analysts who are associated with the teams involved in the game. This week, the analysts will be former Marlins All-Star first baseman Gaby Sanchez and 1980 World Series champion pitcher Bob Walk. Ashley ShahAhmadi will serve as the sideline reporter.
