NEW YORK -- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may be known best for his prodigious power, but as it turns out, the Blue Jays slugger can turn on the wheels when he needs to as well.
The 26-year-old isn’t too shabby at diving, either.
Guerrero showcased those skills during the third inning of the Blue Jays' 9-6 loss in Game 3 of the ALDS on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium, where he scored in impressive fashion on a one-out single by Ernie Clement during Toronto’s four-run rally.
Clement hit a knock to left, and Blue Jays third-base coach Carlos Febles was aggressive in sending Guerrero, who had been on second -- a wise decision.
While scrambling home, Guerrero reached a sprint speed of 29.3 feet/second, per Statcast, which is just shy of the elite mark of 30. Then, his most impressive feat came when he capped his scamper with a headfirst, leaping dive into the plate.
After home-plate umpire Jordan Baker signaled safe, Guerrero hopped up and let out a ton of emotion, clapping his hands together and high-fiving teammate Anthony Santander, who had been in the on-deck circle.
Of course, Guerrero had already showed off his power, too, by that point, having clobbered a two-run homer in the first, marking his third consecutive ALDS game with a long ball.
