Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was out of the Blue Jays’ starting lineup Saturday, one day after exiting the game and undergoing concussion protocols.
Guerrero collided with Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. in a chaotic play at third base during the sixth inning of Toronto's 3-1 win over New York on Friday. As an errant throw got away from Lombard and he turned to chase after the ball, his left knee hit Guerrero in the face.
“He had a headache last night. I think it’s one of those where the doctors wanted to see how he woke up today,” manager John Schneider said pregame. “He’s here, I think kind of feeling the same. They’re just finishing up testing for today and we’ll go from there.”
No roster move involving Guerrero was announced, but the Blue Jays did recall left-handed pitcher Ricky Tiedemann from Triple-A Buffalo ahead of Saturday's game, optioning righty Chase Lee in a corresponding move. Outfielder Daz Cameron has also reported to the Toronto clubhouse.
Should Guerrero land on the IL, 10-day or the 7-day concussion option, rookie Charles McAdoo would be the primary option to fill in at first base. Third baseman Kazuma Okamoto could also slide over.
