The American League-leading Indians put their 21-game win streak on the line when they open a four-game series at home against the AL Wild Card-contending Royals as part of today's 12-game Major League schedule streaming live on MLB.TV.
Cleveland has set an AL record for consecutive victories, and the club is now chasing the 1916 New York Giants, who hold the Major League record with 26 wins in a row.
The Tribe will send veteran right-hander Josh Tomlin (9-9, 5.13 ERA) to the mound in the series opener against the Royals, who will counter with rookie righty Jakob Junis (7-2, 4.34 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET at Progressive Field.
The Indians began their historic streak with a 13-6 victory over the Red Sox on Aug. 24, and they have since swept the Royals, Yankees, Tigers, White Sox, Orioles and Tigers again.
"I think they're enjoying themselves. They should," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "It's pretty special."

The win streak is not the only thing at stake for the Tribe tonight. There are postseason implications, too, as Cleveland looks to maintain its slim lead over the Astros for the best record in the AL, which provides home-field advantage in the postseason.
The Royals, meanwhile, are four games back of the Twins for the second AL Wild Card.

Pomeranz seeks 16th win: OAK@BOS, 1:35 p.m.
The first-place Red Sox send left-hander Thomas Pomeranz to the mound in the rubber match of a three-game series against the A's. The Sox lead the Yankees by three games in the AL East.
Pomeranz (3.35 ERA) is tied for second in the AL with 15 wins, which is one shy of the league lead shared by Chris Sale, Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer. Since June 16, Pomeranz is 9-1 with a 2.61 ERA.
Rookie right-hander Daniel Gossett (4-8, 5.02 ERA) gets the ball for Oakland in his first career start against the Sox. Gossett is 3-4 with a 6.09 ERA in nine starts in day games.

Cards go for series win: CIN@STL, 1:45 p.m.
St. Louis looks to win its fourth series in a row when the club hosts the Reds in the rubber match of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals are three games behind the first-place Cubs in the National League Central and are still within striking distance of the Rockies (3 1/2 games) for the second NL Wild Card.
Rookie left-hander Amir Garrett (3-7, 7.39 ERA) takes the mound for the Reds, who are 9-6 against the Cards this year. Right-hander Luke Weaver (5-1, 2.16 ERA) toes the rubber for the Cards, who have won eight of their last 10 games.

NL Wild Card contenders clash: COL@ARI, 3:40 p.m.
The D-backs are looking to hold off the Rockies for home-field advantage in the NL Wild Card Game, and these NL West rivals meet this afternoon in the finale of a four-game series at Chase Field. Colorado won the first two games before Arizona was victorious on Wednesday.
Right-hander Chad Bettis (1-2, 4.98 ERA) starts for the Rockies, who are trying to maintain their cushion over the Cardinals and Brewers for the second Wild Card spot. Zack Godley (7-7, 3.18 ERA) gets the ball for the D-backs as they conclude a seven-game homestand.

Yankees return to Bronx: BAL@NYY, 7:05 p.m.
The Yankees return to Yankee Stadium for the opener of a four-game series against the Orioles. New York is three games ahead of the Twins for the first AL Wild Card, and the O's are 4 1/2 games behind the Twins.
Right-hander Masahiro Tanaka (11-11, 4.82 ERA) draws the start for the Yankees, who will play 14 of their remaining 17 games at home. Tanaka is 6-4 with a 3.40 ERA over his last 13 starts. Left-hander Wade Miley (8-12, 4.96 ERA) starts for the Orioles, who are 6-9 against the Bronx Bombers this season.

Keep an eye out for Yankees rookie slugger Aaron Judge. He leads the AL with 41 home runs, and nine of those have come against Baltimore pitchers.
