deGrom, Mets open full slate on MLB.TV

Three day games and several aces in action highlight today's games

June 1st, 2016

Several big-name starting pitchers will be on the mound today during a full schedule of Major League games, which gets started this afternoon with a trio of matinees.
Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom will make the first pitch of the day. The fun doesn't stop there, with Nationals ace Max Scherzer, Rangers left-hander Cole Hamels, Yankees righty Masahiro Tanaka, Cubs southpaw Jon Lester and Mariners stud Felix Hernandez all slated to start today.
For those fans who prefer offense, Nats second baseman Daniel Murphy is one great game at the plate away from bumping his average back toward .400.
And the best place to catch all the action is on MLB.TV.

Here's what to watch for today in the Majors (all times ET):
deGrom goes for Mets: CWS@NYM, 1:10 p.m.
deGrom (3-1, 2.81 ERA) starts for the Mets in the rubber match against the White Sox this afternoon at Citi Field. The White Sox, who snapped a seven-game losing skid Tuesday, will counter with right-hander Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 4.50). It's the first Interleague start for deGrom this year. He's 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in four outings at home this season. Gonzalez, who has never faced the Mets, is 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in seven career Interleague starts.
Stat that matters:
The Mets have homered in 11 straight games, hitting 16 homers in that span.

Murphy flirting with .400: WSH@PHI, 7:05 p.m.
Murphy brings his MLB-leading .397 average into tonight's series finale against the Phillies, as the Nationals go for a three-game sweep. The second baseman is riding a 10-game hit streak and went 2-for-4 on Tuesday to finish with a .416 average (47-for-113) in May. He's 0-for-2 lifetime against Phillies lefty starter Adam Morgan (1-3, 6.67). The Nationals will give the ball to Scherzer (5-4, 4.05), who is 5-1 with a 2.38 ERA in eight career starts against the Phils.
Murphy smashing records with refined approach
Stat that matters:
In five games at Citizens Bank Park this season, Murphy is hitting .450 (9-for-20) with two doubles, two homers, one triple and five RBIs.

Blue Jays go for sweep: NYY@TOR, 7:07 p.m.
The Yankees will ask Tanaka (3-0, 2.89) to be their stopper as they try to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the rival Blue Jays, who have won six of eight meetings overall this year. Tanaka has been great away from home this season and leads the American League with a 1.34 ERA on the road. Toronto is on a roll, winning nine of its last 12 games. Blue Jays starters are 5-2 in that stretch, with Aaron Sanchez (4-1, 3.29) looking to continue the rotation's success tonight.
Stat that matters:
Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez is 0-for-15 against Blue Jays pitching this season, while outfielder Brett Gardner is 0-for-24.

Contenders clash in Chicago: LAD@CHC, 8:05 p.m.
Lester (5-3, 2.48) looks to get the Cubs back in the win column after the Dodgers snapped their six-game win streak on Tuesday night. The Dodgers had success against Lester last year, getting to him for nine earned runs in 10 innings over two starts. Meanwhile, Mike Bolsinger (1-1, 4.50) makes his third start for the Dodgers since coming off the disabled list.
Stat that matters:
The Dodgers are 13-7 at Wrigley Field since 2011, the best record among any National League club (minimum 10 games played).
