White Sox agree to terms on one-year contracts with Garcia and Putnam

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on one-year contracts with outfielder Avisail Garcia ($2.1-million) and right-handed pitcher Zach Putnam ($975,000) avoiding arbitration.

CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on one-year contracts with outfielder Avisail Garcia ($2.1-million) and right-handed pitcher Zach Putnam ($975,000) avoiding arbitration.
Garcia, 24, batted .257 (142-553) with 13 home runs, 59 RBI and 66 runs scored in 2015, his first full season in the major leagues. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Garcia is a career .264 hitter (268-1,016) with 27 homers and 122 RBI over parts of four major-league seasons with Detroit (2012) and the White Sox (2013-15). He was acquired by Chicago from Detroit on July 30, 2013 as part of a three-team deal with Boston.
Putnam, 28, went 3-3 with a 4.07 ERA (22 ER/48.2 IP) and 64 strikeouts over 49 relief appearances last season, his second with the White Sox. He allowed just 19.0 percent (4-21) of inherited baserunners to score in 2015. Putnam has gone 9-7 with a 3.57 ERA (46 ER/116.0 IP) and 123 strikeouts in 113 career relief appearances over five major-league seasons with Cleveland (2011), Colorado (2012), the Cubs (2013) and White Sox (2014-15). He was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on November 27, 2013.
Following the signings, the Sox have no remaining arbitration-eligible players.
