First-round pick Burdi among signings

White Sox agree with 26 of 41 selections

June 18th, 2016

CLEVELAND -- The White Sox agreed to terms with nine of their Top 10 picks from the 2016 Draft, including one of their two first-round picks, right-handed pitcher Zack Burdi.
Burdi was taken 26th overall as compensation for Jeff Samardzija signing as a free agent with the Giants. Burdi, 21, went 1-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 30 innings pitched for Louisville, with 47 strikeouts and 11 saves over 27 appearances. He helped lead the Cardinals, who finished atop the Atlantic Coast Conference, to a 50-12 overall record and a 22-8 record in the ACC.
"To have the opportunity to be a part of it and the organization and have that opportunity placed in front of me is something I'm grateful for," said Burdi, during a conference call the night of his selection. "And I can't thank the White Sox organization enough."
