CHICAGO -- There likely aren't many in Chicago that thought the debate between Avisail Garcia and Mookie Betts for being a better player in 2017 would be a real contested one, but Garcia's breakout campaign has made it a conversation.
Garcia, who homered in Tuesday's loss to the Twins, again passed Betts for fifth among American League outfielders in the latest Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot update on Tuesday, posting 970,994 votes compared to the Boston outfielder's 946,510.
Garcia trails Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge -- the leading vote-getter in the AL -- two-time AL MVP Michael Trout, Houston's George Springer and Cleveland's Michael Brantley.

Garcia trails Brantley by just more than 30,000 votes. He's turned into a star in the middle of the White Sox order, hitting .332/.374/.538 with 10 homers and 48 RBIs.
The fifth and final AL All-Star voting update before starters are officially announced will be Monday.
Fans may cast votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 29, at 11:59 p.m. ET. On smartphones and tablets, fans can also access the ballot via the MLB.com At Bat and MLB.com Ballpark mobile apps. Vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 ballots cast.
Following the announcement of the 2017 All-Star starters, reserves and pitchers, fans should return to MLB.com and cast their 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote for the final player on each league's All-Star roster. Then on Tuesday, July 11, while watching the 2017 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard live on FOX, fans may visit MLB.com to submit their choices for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet with the 2017 MLB All-Star Game MVP Vote.
